Hi guys, so this is the first time that I have written a blog... so I thought the best way was to write one about a coursework piece that I am doing at University.

For this project, the brief explained that I was to create a selection of artwork that will form the basis of my professional portfolio. I needed to choose a project that is based on a real-world brief and ensure that the idea that would for would be of a high enough quality for a portfolio submission.
Researching online I found a competition brief on e-onsoftware.com that gave me an extensive amount of freedom when deciding what to create for this project. Below shows a summary of the competition:
“Create an image of any kind of environment using your application of choice. Images can be in any style and genre, realistic or imaginary, as long as the natural environment is visually predominant. You can use imported objects and figures if you wish.
The competition is open to everyone, hobbyists and professionals alike. The judging will be based solely on the quality, originality and artistic merit of the images, not on the software used to create them.”
With a brief in place it was time to decide on my own project. I decided on creating a moving simulation animatic as I wanted to experiment with my skills in several different areas. Within this, a dragon is going to be flying towards a city on a hill top surrounded by beautiful countryside while the sun is setting. It will have a medieval feeling to each matt painting. As the dragon goes towards the castle, it will start attacking it with fire that it blows out of its mouth leaving death and destruction in its wake as it flies away into the sun-set. This will incorporate several intricate matt paintings, a digitally constructed city as well as a 3D dragon model using the programs 3DS Max, Mudbox, Photoshop, After Effects and Adobe Premier.
So this post is just a little introduction into what I am going to be doing over the next few months!!
